This policy explains what PlanUp collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. PlanUp is a planner and journal for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.
Your tasks and journal are encrypted on your device, with a key only you hold, before they're ever backed up or synced. They stay encrypted on our servers and in your iCloud, and are only unlocked again on your own devices.
Not even PlanUp can read them. Neither can our hosting provider, or anyone who gains access to our servers.
Your tasks, journal entries, and the photos, videos and voice recordings you add to entries are stored on your device. Without Sync & Backup, they never leave it, except for the AI features described below. PlanUp on Apple Watch keeps your tasks on the Watch, and has no journal.
Sync & Backup is optional. It keeps your tasks and journal in step across your devices and backs them up, end-to-end encrypted.
If you buy a subscription on our website, we use the email address you give there to link that subscription to the app.
PlanUp's AI asks follow-up questions while you write, reflects on your entries, writes up video and voice entries, suggests things to write about, picks a quote of the day, writes articles for you, and can read articles aloud. Some of these run on their own when you open the app, such as the suggested prompts, the quote of the day and the weekly article.
What's sent. So the AI can respond with the context of your journal, each of these requests includes the text of your journal: your entries, their titles and feelings, and what your journals are for. Your tasks aren't included. Unlike your backup, this text has to be readable by the AI to answer you, so it's sent encrypted in transit, not end-to-end encrypted. Photos and videos themselves are never sent to AI.
Our servers pass these requests on and never store or log their content. OpenRouter and ElevenLabs process them under their own privacy terms. ElevenLabs may keep requests for a limited time under its terms.
Subscriptions are handled by Apple, and we never see your payment details. To check your subscription and apply its monthly AI allowance, the app sends Apple's signed proof of your purchase with each AI request. For each request, we record your purchase's ID from Apple, which feature it was, what it cost us, and when. We don't record what was sent or answered.
We collect app usage data, such as the features you use, along with device information and crash reports, to fix problems and improve PlanUp. We use PostHog for analytics and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reports. We don't record your screen, and the content of your tasks and journal is never part of analytics. This data is linked to an identifier for your device and, if you sign in, to your account ID and email.
We advertise PlanUp on platforms such as TikTok. To learn which ads lead to installs and purchases, we work with measurement and attribution partners, such as AppsFlyer. When you install and open the app, they receive technical information such as your device model, operating system version, IP address, and an identifier for your app installation. When you start a trial or subscribe, they also receive that event with its price and currency. They use this to match your install to an ad you saw or tapped, and share the results with the advertising platform so it can measure and improve our ads. Your tasks and journal are never shared for advertising.
PlanUp asks for access only when a feature needs it. You can change these in your device's Settings at any time.
All communication with our servers and service providers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. On top of that, your backed-up tasks and journal are end-to-end encrypted with AES-256-GCM, with a key only your devices hold, as described above.
We don't sell your data. We share it only with service providers that help us run PlanUp, for the purposes described above:

PlanUp isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Our website uses analytics tools like TikTok Pixel and PostHog to see which features are popular and improve the experience.
You can delete your account and backup in the app at any time. To request a copy of your data, or for any question about your privacy, email support@planup.today. Because your backup is end-to-end encrypted, we can provide it only in its encrypted form.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date.
